Sandra Pratt

Sandra Pratt a native of Chicago, born in 1978. She moved to Colorado after spending one semester at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she felt unsatisfied with the emphasis on theory, rather than technique. Since then, she has taught herself to paint, creating her own truly genuine and unique approach.

Pratt's travels thought the countryside of Europe offer the inspiration for her dramatic landscapes. Her work is abstract representational; each scene offers a glimpse of familiarity, a universal representation of place. Her romanticized landscapes, smoky and introspective, are something we have all seen from a distance or experienced in one form or another. Pratt's paintings capture a moment in time.

Pratt lays down color and texture by her most preferable method, the palette knife. This tool allows her to work quickly and capture the general feeling of each painting. She works spontaneously yet with a clear intention of each mark she makes. Sandra builds up layers of color and texture, making each piece a catalyst for an emotional response.
